~Frequently Asked Questions~
Here are just a few questions you may have before booking a trip.
If you have any other questions or concerns please write
or call 1-603-339-2646.
What type of food is provided?
WOA provides balanced meals on the trips. A menu will be sent to each client prior to the trip. Be sure to fill out the registration form, particularly regarding food preferences and allergies.
Should I bring my own water?
Yes. Carry either 2 liters of bottled water or purchase a hydration reservoir and fill it prior to the trip. Water filters will be utilized in the backcountry. Never drink untreated water.
Are the sleeping bags cleaned regularly?
The bags are cleaned as necessary. Bags lose their loft ability (warmth) with each washing. You may consider purchasing a sleeping bag liner, they come in cotton, fleece, and silk for your own comfort. It is recommended to wear non-hiking clothes at nite.
Should I get hiking boots or a trail shoe?
Your feet have to be comfortable. Over the ankle boots are preferable, but some people like a grippy trail shoe. These are not advisable on a long backpack trip. Our recommendation is that you go to a reputable outdoor store such as EMS or REI and get properly fitted.
Is it buggy?
It depends on where the hike is and the season. You'll see bug repellent included in the gear list. Be sure to bring your preferred repellent and be sure to bring any medications or an epipen if you are allergic to bees or mosquitos.
What if I am signing up by myself, how will I be paired for a tentmate?
We will have everyone’s email address and try to coordinate on line meetings for those concerned ahead of the trip. Otherwise, upon meeting each other, introductions will lead to pairing up.
Can I get a group together and book a special trip?
Absolutely, as long as the group is all women. Each person will have to fill out the registration form so we can plan a trip that fits everyone’s needs and abilities.
Why would I choose to take a trip of yours rather than go on my own?
We have alot of experience in this area; we've spent alot of time out there. When you travel with us you can truly relax. We will take care of all the incidentals so you can just enjoy.
What if I want to (have to) go home in the middle of the trip?
This would depend on the type of trip you're taking, but if you're on a hike in the wilderness there will not be a way to turn back.
Obviously if you should become sick or get hurt we will get you to safety.
Remember, we are Wilderness Certified so very capable of health services.
If you have more questions or concerns about this possibility, please call. We want to be sure you are completely comfortable before booking with us.
Would my cell phone work? If not, is there another kind of communication device to use?
Our mission is to truly get you away from it all, therefore it is suggested that you don't bring a cell phone on your trip. Depending on where the trip is there often is not cell phone service.
Your trip leader will always have a phone. However, again, service can be sketchy.
Can I bring my dog on a hike?
Unfortunately we cannot allow dogs on any of our trips. We are not insured should your beloved pet get hurt and although you love your dog, others may not find it preferable. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
Are your trips for lesbians only?
Absolutely not. Our trips are for all women. Whoever you are and whatever your day to day stresses are, we'll help you get away from it all.
Do you sell WOA Gift Certificates?
Absolutely. Our gift certificates come in all values and can be used towards any trip we offer. These make a great gift for that woman in your life who just can't find the time to do this for herself. Call us, 603-339-2646, or write , and order yours today.
Do you have an E-mail newsletter?
Funny you should ask. Yes, we do. Sign-up here and rest assured your e-mail address is always safe with us. Unsubscribing? It's as quick and easy as snapping your fingers.
Why are the prices for your winter trips only approximate?
Because we never know what we'll have to pay for accommodations until we know where we're going and how many we have. So, if you're thinking of taking a trip, book early. The sooner we know what kind of a group we have the sooner we'll be able to price it.
How close are your approximate prices to reality?
Most likely within 10%. We strive very hard to make all of our trips affordable and priced fairly.
